All Lives Matter

Every life created by Almighty God has its own purpose and worth. There is no one greater or lesser, instead we are all created equally. We don’t deserve to be hurt thus we don’t have the right to hurt someone. We all have the rights to live peacefully and righteously.

Human rights is considered as one of the most important thing that a person has. According to Age Uk (2017) Human rights are basic rights that belong to all of us simply because we are human. They embody key values in our society such as fairness, dignity, equality and respect. They are an important means of protection for us all, especially those who may face abuse, neglect and isolation.

The golden rule which is “Do unto others what you want to do unto you” is also comnected with human rights. As it is your right to be respected and valued, it is also your responsibility to ensure that you have respect to other people’s lives regardless of their appearance, social status, race, gender, sexual orientation and many more. In addition, the government also has the responsibility to provide and serve protection for its citizens. They are required to establish and maintain laws and services that enable people to enjoy a life in which their rights are respected and protected. And they will be held accountable for their actions if they failed to give the rightful protection and service to their people.

If there is no human rights, the world will be in chaos. We will experience wars, killings, discriminations, abused and many more. Not that we don’t experience it nowadays but it will be worse than this. Because even our basic right to life will be taken away because there’s nothing to protect ourselves from someone who wants to do inhumane things to us. Just like during World War II millions of soldiers and civilians were killed or maimed. The Nazi regime in Germany created concentration camps for certain groups including Jews, communists, homosexuals and political opponents. Some of these people were used as slave labour, others were exterminated in mass executions.

Furthermore, the Japanese occupation of China and other Asian countries was marked by frequent and large-scale brutality toward local populations. Japanese forces took thousands of prisoners of war who were used as slave labour, with no medical treatment and inadequate food. The promotion and protection of human rights became a fundamental objective of the Allied powers. In 1941, U.S. President Roosevelt proclaimed the 'Four Freedoms' that people everywhere in the world ought to enjoy - freedom of speech and belief, and freedom from want and fear.

The war ended in 1945, but only after the destruction of millions of lives. Many countries were devastated by the war, and millions of people died or became homeless refugees. As the war drew to a close, the victorious powers decided to establish a world organisation that would prevent further conflict and help build a better world. This was then the reason when an organisation named as the United Nations also known as UN was created in 1945. This organisation aims to ensure peace and security, promote economic development, promote the development of international law, and ensure the observance of human rights.

We cannot afford to lose this huge number of people again even if our population are continuing to grow, as all the lives of the people matter. Therefore, human rights is important and crucial in our lives.
